The Loar's new hand carved, nitrocellulose-finished archtop guitar is a product of extensive historical research. The all solid, hand carved bodies are finished with nitrocellulose lacquer to reflect the classic jazz sounds of Golden Age instruments. With the use of traditional building techniques, like the classic parallel bracing, the Loar Hand Carved Archtops are a singular achievement. Their excellent projection and quick decay make them the professional choice for jazz soloing or accompaniment. The Loar Hand Carved Archtop Guitar is assembled with an AAA solid hand carved spruce top and AAA flamed maple back, sides and neck. The bone nut and compensated adjustable ebony bridge let the sound of the select tonewoods resonate clearly, and the bound ebony fretboard is both beautiful and durable. The archtop is finished with a meticulously inlaid “Flowerpot” headstock design and a hand-buffed nitrocellulose lacquer tobacco sunburst finish to stay true to classic design and style. The LH-700 will only be built in very limited quantities. It comes standard with the Golden Age-styled Deluxe Vintage Hardshell archtop case.

A beautiful sounding guitar

I wanted to share my thoughts on the LH-700-VS. I purchased the instrument from Amazon. It arrived in a heavy duty hard shell case that was well packed. It was strung with D'Addario phosphor bronze strings that appear to be Med to Medium-light. After I unpacked it I gave the guitar a good visual inspection. It is a beautiful guitar. The woods used are good. The top is a nice even grain spruce with a little lace running through it. The fretboard and bridge are ebony. The back and sides are a medium flamed maple. All are solid woods. It has a nice hand finished look to it.I had read several reviews of the instrument from other sites. One of the main complaints was the fit and finish. There are some minor things but nothing that I found objectionable. The neck that extends over and above the soundboard is a little rough and the lower bouts where they meet at the endpin are not perfectly centered. Neither of which is a big deal when you consider the rest of the instrument.I tuned up the guitar and let it sit for a few minutes before playing anything. Playing was a revelation as to the distinct sound of a good archtop guitar. It has a rich, clear woody tone when you are playing melody lines. It also has a natural reverb, not resonance like a dreadnought, but reverb like you are playing in an empty room. I don't know how it does that but it sounds good. When I started to bang out some jazz rhythms it was so loud I had to back off a little bit because it hurt my ears. I really do love the sound of it.I also love the thicker neck. I play mostly classical so it feels very comfortable to me. The action was OK as shipped but I will probably have it looked at after I play it in for a while. Overall I really like the instrument and with Amazon's current promotion it is a great buy at $1000.00
