Amazing guitar for the price, great guitar regardless.

First off, I bought this guitar about a year ago when the price was about half what it is currently. Even at the increased price, the cost to value ratio is still very good, IMHO. It's got a solid top for one thing, which is the one feature I would make sure of when buying a more budget guitar, because with a solid topped instrument, the more you play it the more the wood opens up and learns to vibrate correctly, making for an instrument that just gets better with time. Secondly, it looks great, and I've gotten many a compliment in that department. The tuning machines are the smoothest I've worked with in any lower priced guitar, and I wouldn't be surprised to find those exact models on a much higher end guitar, they're that good. They are surely one of the major things in favor of this guitar, because the last thing anyone wants to do is buy a guitar and then have to fight with the tuners every time you tune your guitar, and that's a problem that far too many low and even mid range guitars suffer from. The frets are well crafted: no sharp edges sticking out the sides of the fingerboard, and intonation is almost spot-on. Stock strings aren't all that good; I recommend Elixir Nanowebs very highly.Now for a couple minor nitpicks: The holes in which the bridge pins sit are not quite properly drilled, which causes the pins to sit at different heights. Not a big deal from a technical standpoint, as the pins do not have to even be snug in their holes to keep the strings secure, but it can look a bit odd. I considered drilling each of the holes out a bit to correct that, but decided it's not worth the time as I rarely notice it anyway. Also, and this really isn't even a nitpick at the price point, there is no front strap button pre-installed, so you can either tie the strap around the headstock, or install your own, as I did (this is the strap button kit I used: Planet Waves Elliptical End Pins, Gold; just watch a few YouTube tutorials on the subject, use common sense, and it should turn out great.)All in all, I pretty much love this guitar, and the low price makes it even better. Most people have never heard of Mitchell guitars, but I think that's fixing to change if they keep on like they are. Oh, just one more thing: this guitar comes with a plastic nut and saddle, which work ok obviously, but plastic is not the best material for such things. So, I recently bought a TUSQ saddle (this one: Graph Tech Tusq 1/8" Fully Compensated Acoustic Saddle), filed it down to fit, installed it in my guitar, and I almost could not believe how much the volume and sustain had increased with just that new saddle. Can hardly wait to get a TUSQ nut as well, and hear how much difference that makes!Well, in closing, I hope this review helps you make a decision, and if you have questions or comments, I will gladly respond.
