New Artist Series guitars from Alvarez look stunning and come in a huge variety of shapes, colors and wood choices. All of their components are made of natural materials such as mother of pearl and abalone inlays, real bone saddles and nuts and rosewood appointments. But the magic really starts when you pick one up and play it. Each model is designed to get the best out if its components, and for them to work together to produce a tone and player experience, rarely found in affordable instruments. The solid ‘A’ grade Sitka spruce and cedar tops are hand selected from quarter-sawn wood. This ensures consistent quality, and its no secret better guitars are made from better wood. Our tops not only look great but they are stiff and strong and finely grained. This allows us to cut them just that tiny bit thinner, which lets them dance a little more and produce a lot more vibration, and ultimately a richer tone.

Great Sound, Great Price

I picked one of these up locally after considering many other parlour size guitars. This one was the best balance of craftsmanship and affordability. The neck seemed a bit much at first (I have smaller hands), but its grown on me and just took a little time to get used to. Yes, compared to dreadnought-sized instrument (say a vintage Yamaha, for example) the low-end isn't as bassy...it's an unfair comparison - this parlour-sized guitar sounds fantastic. It's easy and comfortable to play, not to mention damn good looking.A couple notes -*Despite being pictured here as not having one, the couple that I've seen in person all had the generic shape Alvarez pick-guard. I think they look awful and ruin the classical look of the instrument. I removed mine (easily enough) and replaced it with a small Martin-style guard.*The rosewood bridge pins have never fit all that well; that is, some of them are too slim for the holes. When I would adjust the tuning of a string, I'd hear the sharp crack of the pin coming slightly more unseated. I'd push it back down and try again. None of them ever failed or popped out, but it upset me enough that I replaced them with some ebony ones.Other than that, I've been incredibly satisfied with my purchase and do not see myself parting with it in the foreseeable future.

First I want to say this is a good guitar for the money, secondly, I own over a dozen guitars both acoustic and electric and I'm a three decade player .. The components are quality for all but the plastic bridge i will soon replicate using cow bone. They mass produce these in China and I guess this is where Alvarez lost it's quality assurance program before shipping these to their customers. Out of the box (no case) the high E string buzzes between the 5th and 12th and so deciding to find out myself instead of sending it back , I just loosened the strings enough to pop the strings to pull the bridge to shim the low side with a slither of a business card. Reinserted the plastic bridge and strings. It helped but still get a slight buzzing on the low E 8th fret.. You would think they would have quality control for assuring a tuned fret board. If I returned this guitar, they would have done the same thing and sent it back to me. So prepare to have to shim the cheap plastic bridge. Thinking soon to replicate the plastic bridge and nut using bone. Still okay for 300 dollar guitar I guess.

I am an acoustic guitar fanatic, owning around 60 ( I think!)guitars that I have collected over the last 30 years and enjoying every minute of it. I also have a strong penchant for "Parlor" size guitars and own several of them as well. Recently my very perceptive girlfriend presented me with, for my birthday, an Alvarez AP70. I of course was very grateful for her kind gesture, but really didn't expect a whole lot from this little guitar. Man, was I wrong. Every guitar player out there knows that you have to live with an instrument for awhile and "bond" with it in order to truly enjoy it. You have to build a "relationship" with it. After spending a lot of time getting to know this guitar, I have truly fallen in love with it. It is a little jewell. I will give you my summary. The sound is very balanced and clear and it is louder, and projects sound as if it were a much larger guitar. Parlors characteristically sound somewhat thin and a little tinny, particularly in the lower registers. Not so with this little baby! It has a tonal quality that surpasses any other parlor that I own. It is clear and consistent. Sustain is very good, with a "bell-like" quality when playing higher notes. Traditional parlors tend to have wider necks than other guitars, and this one is a little wide too, but not too much. Finger-picking is a breeze, as well as strumming and flat-picking. It is very versatile. Factory set-up was right on the money. Action is nice and low and intonation is spot on right out of the box. This would be a perfect guitar for any student just starting to learn guitar, it's small size lending itself to smaller hands very well. Very easy to play. Workmanship is excellent throughout. The frets are nice and clean with no burred edges. The finish is very nice, even inside the slotted headstock, which sometimes gets somewhat overlooked, even on guitars costing twice as much. The open gear tuners are nice and tight and hold tune extremely well. Alvarez have produced here, a very modern interpretation of a traditional parlor guitar. I would recommend this guitar to anyone.
