By Harlan Y. Stephens
Not a bad guitar, all solid wood, the fender site list a gloss neck however mine is a satin finish, or oil ? Very nice feel, the string balance is pretty darn good, as is intonation. projection and volume, how ever is lacking, just to be real, this I feel is due to the way its built, the neck foot is pretty huge, the thickness of the wood top compared to say most spanish classical's, is pretty thick, one questionable thing on my guitar is the rosewood inside appears to have been lacquered on the inside? Wonder why they did this, for sure did not help the high end or resonance of the guitar, I am sure however this guitar will last many years, its a bit over build imo, the strong point of this guitar is recording, real good definition of notes and balance, it could stand to be a little brighter, but its workable, I would not recommend the guitar for a recital in a large hall, or ensembles with higher end classical's. its volume is not that great. My hits....Solid wood, top back and sides.Neck finish.Cast plate tuners, not stamped, tunes well. This sold me on the guitar in the store, I later found out it was all solid wood,.and one heck of a value.Bone nut and bridge.Sting balance for a guitar at this price range is very good.Should last a long time, built very well.Top finish looks pretty thin, thats a good thing.Fit and finish are very good, better than a 3k ramirez I sent back. The woods used, are pretty good, even grain on the rosewood back/sides, the top has a pretty tight grain, and no major flaws in it..Very playable guitar, action very low, I will end up raising it some myself. The fact fender has a classical, thats all soild wood, its made in china to reach this price point, but its just a fender, kudos to fender for not naming it some fictitious spanish guys name....like many do.My misses...why the heck was the rosewood on the inside lacquered ? Smells bad, muffles sound I am sure.Lack of volume, and projection. Not real hip on the ivory-oid all over. But they went with a very fender 70s vibe and I respect that. Some things I plan on doing to get the most out of this guitar, I want to raise the nut and bridge a little, for recording I don't want any buzzzz...and it will improve the tone, the fit and finish of the bone nut and saddle are ok, but I can do better, so I will replace both, and raise the action some. Also get the intonation a little tighter..I plan on stripping the top finish and french polishing, may take a little wood off the top and try to get some more volume , projection, and high end out of her.... a all solid wood classical, at this price, is one heck of a deal, and is one heck of a guitar just like it is, well above the usual laminated side back guitars at this price point, I think with a little work I can get the tone into the 2-3k range....

By G Bennett
This guitar is a great mid-range classical guitar. I purchased a used one while looking at a new one. I got a great deal through just plain luck. I had a Martin gut classical growing up in the 1960's and I like the tone and sound quality much better with the Fender. The quality of workmanship on this guitar is excellent. The neck is straight and does not twist. The nut however is plastic on the one I bought. The saddle was also plastic and very high, but I crafted a bone saddle, sanded out the saddle channel on the bridge and doubled the volume with bone. I have a much lower action now without any buzz. I plan on adding a sick-on Dean Markley sound pick up to the underside of the bridge. The top is thick, but I do not plan on redoing the varnish. The varnish is thick on mine and there was one chip of about 1 inch by a 1/2 inch at the lower edge. It is barely noticeable. But the thickness of the varnish makes a re-varnishing more difficult. With the pick up and a microphone to blend the sound I think a re-varnish will be more trouble than its worth. The feel of this guitar is excellent and it fits me very well. Try one before buying to know if it is right for you. The varnish and finish is very glossy on the guitar body, but thin and satin on the neck. This makes it easy to play. The inside on mine is not coated but has the natural Rosewood color and finish of raw Rosewood. It does have a smell of the glue in the sound hold. I think the other review helped me decide on buying this guitar. Be aware that Fender has made several versions of this model, some with plastic saddles. Be prepared to carefully inspect yours and make adjustments when setting up. Most guitars are not matched to the user's needs and the nut and saddle may need lowering. My next step is to try medium tension strings to change the sound and string feel. The key to maximum enjoyment is a great set up.
