By Brett Llewellyn
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1KM6SP3FK6LL1 (EDIT 1/7/2013) - [Second edit, sorry - the following mentioned video is now attached as a video review -- I wanted to add in that I did a recording using this guitar which is on YouTube. If you search "Brett Llewellyn Guster Happier" you will easily find it. It has mostly strumming, with a little bit of fingerpicking at the very end, but is the guitar directly plugged into our interface. There was a very, very slight amount of distortion added to the guitar, but it's hardly noticeable. I feel this is one of the better sounding audio that I've found online with this guitar and thought it could be helpful.]Alternatively I also recently recorded a sample of the guitar instrumental piece, Ocean, by John Butler using this guitar which can be found on my SoundCloud page by googling "Brett Llewellyn Soundcloud ocean sample." This piece is completely fingerpicked and a bit more demanding on the guitar. I hadn't played it in awhile so it's far from perfect but it gives a good idea of how the guitar sounds plugged in. I added a small amount of delay in the beginning and reverb in the rest of the song, but nothing that really changes the tone of the guitar.I do not intend to advertise myself in anyway with these, I only wish to better show the superb sound that comes from this guitar.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Review:I've owned a Seagull S6 Slim for over 7 years now. Along the way of my guitar journey, I also picked up a 12 string Takamine G Series (EG523SC-12). Both guitars are unique in their sound, but my Seagull still ends up being my go-to guitar despite the nearly twice as expensive 12 string. Now the Seagull s6 is a great guitar but it doesn't have built in electronics, and it is much better for folk tunes. I wanted something brighter and sounded good plugging in. Due to my previous success with a Seagull, I wanted another. That combination of bright and plugged in is where the Seagull Performer shines.I have to admit, I did not play this guitar before buying it online. It was not available at local guitar stores so I could not test it out. There also are no (in my opinion) decent quality videos online with it being played. I bought it based on the value of my Seagull S6 and its looks. When I got it, I was a bit underwhelmed at first by its sound. The guitar LOOKED beautiful though. The flamed maple and spruce body is absolutely gorgeous especially in contrast to the dark silver leaf maple neck. The normally somewhat-silly looking headstock (for Seagulls, that is) is even great looking, with some sort of laminated polish. However, the sound to me just seemed tinny and dull.Immediately I changed the strings to a set of Elixir 80/20s. While it helped, it still didn't have me sold on the guitar. I still thought the sound was harshly bright. After giving it a day though, coming back I played it again and was in love. I think I was so used to the dark tone qualities of my previous Seagull that I let that influence my opinion of this new guitar when, in reality, they are not comparable. The best way to describe the sound, beyond "bright", is full. I mentioned before that I have a 12 string guitar, which, logically, having more strings means it should sound full. I recorded myself playing chords on both the performer and the 12 string, and the performer sounds just as full. The body produces natural harmonics with the strings surprisingly. It's just gorgeous. Highs and mids really ring out on the performer, and the lows (while less apparent) are clear and not muddy. Like most Seagulls, the sound is unique and not comparable to other big guitar brands. It is a personal preference, but I like it more than most Taylors and Martins (which in my opinion, sound pretty generic with the amount of people that use them nowadays). Inarguable really is the fact that you're getting a huge sound for the money. The guitar is also extremely playable. While I did use a slim S6 (1.72" neck compared to 1.80" of the Performer), I had no trouble playing the Performer. I experienced a slight discomfort the first day as my hand adjusted but none afterwards. With the Elixir strings, my hands can glide effortlessly across the neck. Fingerpicking and chords were both easy to do. I also found it easier to express myself dynamically on the guitar - I never have a problem playing loud, but I am able to play the Performer very soft which adds a whole new dimension to playing.I do not have an amp on hand, but last weekend I went to try one out and was 100% "wow"ed. I was playing through an ibanez troubadour at a local guitar shop and was greeted with such an incredible tone and sound. There was no feedback or hiss through the amp. The guitar sounded so incredibly crisp and with everything equalized (all the knobs on the Quantum 1 electronics set to the same amount), the guitar was just... colorful to say the least. I went in to just test out the electronics and make sure they worked and ended up staying for over an hour because I could not put it down. It felt like a $3,000++ dollar guitar. If you're looking for a guitar to, well, perform on stage with, then the performer is the way to go. I was completely blown away by its amped sound. It has a tone quality of one that definitely makes you stand out, but is pleasant to sing along to. It also just looks beautiful.Compared to my other guitars, I would call this a "step in another direction." It's not necessarily a step up, just a step in a direction I wanted to go with live performance. Each guitar has something to offer, and the performer's name really defines what it's good at.If I missed anything specifically in this review, please comment and ask and I'll happily add it in.

By G. Rhoades
When compared to a Martin, Yamaha, or an Ibanez in the price range it is almost an insult that they are in the same room. These guitars, as well as other Canadian Godins, are built with quality in mind, solid with excellent tones. This model is quiet clearly a hand crafted gem. I purchased the instrument with a Roland Street Cube Amplifier that was well priced and had a great selection of reverb, echoes and 2 channel capabilities all with the ability to play on the street unplugged for more than 10 hours. I would highly recommend this guitar, and the price to value ratio place it well within the five-star rating I am giving it. Remember to make sure you keep it out of extremes in cold or hot temps and that you give it a little humidity.

By dwbarnes32
For the money, I couldnt find a better guitar than the Seagull Performer. First of all, it's just a beautiful guitar to look at. The flame maple is fabulous and the contrasting dark stained maple neck sets if off. I tested several guitars before settling on the Performer. Some were much more expensive, others were about the same price. Naturally, when you look at something that is twice as expensive, you expect twice the quality, and there were those. In comparisons, though, there wasnt anything in the near price range that sounded better or felt better in my hands. The sound of this guitar is balanced and sweet. On the first strum, you will notice the many tonal layers that flow from the soundhole. The natural harmonics will catch your ear from the beginning. Whether you're a flat picker or prefer finger style, you cant miss the depth of sound this guitar will produce.Although the body has a high gloss finish, the satin finish of the neck made it feel like an old friend from the start. The hand moves easily up and down the neck (which is a touch wider than most dreads). When set up correctly, the action is low enough for easy fingering, but there's no buzz up the fretboard.I rated the Performer four stars simply because there are guitars that feel and sound better than the Seagull Performer, but they cost an awful lot more.
