I've been playing guitar for 50 years and teaching for 40, and I never hesitate to recommend Godin products to my students; while they may lack the visual flash of the Pacific Rim offerings in their respective price ranges, you're not likely to find better tone/craftsmanship for the money. Having been forced to retire my '64 Gretsch 6117 due to binding issues I was looking for a similar product in a reasonable price range and, as the owner of a 5th Avenue acoustic, the Kingpin CW was at the top of my short list; needless to say, it didn't disappoint this long-time archtop aficionado. The CW's deep-rooted acoustic heritage was evident in its quick response and natural reverb when played unamplified (both characteristics of a good archtop), which translated to an open, clear, full plugged-in tone with near carved-top complexity - I've played high-dollar vintage Epiphone and Gibson jazz boxes that sounded thuddy and lifeless by comparison, and the current crop of offerings from Ibanez/Washburn/Gretsch/Epiphone aren't even in the same ballpark. Whatever your style, you'll definitely want to go to a heavier string to get that "woody" tone - anything less than a .012 set (I believe it comes equipped with .011's) defeats the purpose of this type of instrument. If you play jazz, rockabilly/roots/Americana, early blues/R&B, vintage country, or just want a sweet-sounding axe to mellow you out after a hard week's work, you'll need to spend twice the bucks on a Pac-Rim product - more for a USA box - to find comparable tone. Highly recommended...

This thing looks beautiful.. photo doesn't do it justice. It sounds great too. I haven't had super major feedback issues playing americana/roots rock with my band, though it feeds back more than my solidbodies and semi-hollowbodies. But it really sounds great... sounds good acoustically and plugged in. This, for me, was a terrific buy, very happy with it.
