Excellent Tone and Feel - Fender CP100

This piece is a prize find! I wanted a cheap "toss around" guitar to add to my large collection of very decent acoustics. This guitar impressed me so much, that I plan to perform with it along side my Martin and Alvarez acoustics. In fact, I already added an LR Baggs M1A pickup to it to start performing ASAP!First off, the reviews that say this guitar is for beginners and smaller hands isn't very accurate. A parlor guitar is pre-dreadnought in size, style, and shape. It's resurgence has to do with love of antiquity and nostalgia, not for beginners and smaller hands. It's quality of materials that deem something beginner or not. Sure, smaller guitars will fit smaller hands better but a "parlor" is a specific size guitar that happens to fit better for smaller hands. After all, you can get a smaller dreadnaught for smaller hands, as well as 3/4 size guitars of different shapes and style.For an all laminate guitar, this guitar sounds very full. It certainly leans more towards a mid-range bark because of its size, but it is still very full in that tone range. Another misconception is that a laminate guitar is inferior to a solid top. Now, I own a good arsenal of solid top and laminate guitars both in the mid to high quality range. The most important thing to consider is the playability and comfort for the player. Sound/tone is subjective. A guitar sounds different to the performer than to person listening 3 feet away.Benefits of a laminate is that they are less expensive, they are low maintenance, in some cases more durable, and in general sound decent. The only con is posterity. It certainly is considered more pro to own "pro" gear. Although a solid top is superior tone wise, you can certainly save money and still have high quality with a good laminate like this sweet parlor.The neck feels very similar to that of an electric, but still has some substance just like most intermediate to higher quality acoustics. The body shape is very comfortable (subjective) in the sense that it small enough to feel more natural under your arm than a dreadnaught or jumbo. Overall construction is very good. It has a satin/matte texture to the laminate top and the action out of the box was spot on (subjective). The paint job is nice from a distance but you can see some flaws in the inner rim of the sound hole.Again, this guitar is a great piece. If you have more money to spend on quality, then spend it! If not, this is the best $154 I have spent on an instrument. Being that I plan to perform with it, I can almost call it an investment.

I'm going to put my bias right out here: I have NEVER EVER played a Fender accoustic that didn't sound like it was made of plastic. A lot of people get sucked in by then name, and YES I love my Fender Strat, but these guys just haven't made a an accoustic worthy of the name until this one. It has warm sound and fantastic action. For the money, I don't think you could do much better (maybe a Yamaha.)

Received the guitar today and it's great! For a 'Made in Indonesia' Fender, the quality control is very good. Frets are dressed properly. Action is a bit high for my taste but playable (even for a beginner). The finish is matte and the neck has a nice smooth feel to it. The top and back are laminate but it still has a nice sustain to it. The factory bronze strings are too bright for my taste and I will likely replace the plastic bridge pins, saddle and nut with bone. The tuners are serviceable. I have pretty large hands and the string spacing is a little tight in the first position for me but not uncomfortable (I'll update my review with measurement later). I would recommend this guitar for someone that is just learning or a player that is just looking for an "around the house/take to the beach" kick around acoustic. For under $200 this is a sweet, little parlor!
