Cordoba's 1/2 size Requinto guitar is handmade with a solid cedar top and mahogany back and sides. The hand-inlaid all-natural wood rosette and Indian rosewood detailing distinguishes this model from other guitars in this price range. It is designed with the traditional 5-fan Torres style bracing to produce a rich Spanish sound in spite of its diminutive string length. Ideal for children learning how to play nylon string guitars. A quality guitar with a excellent craftsmanship

I received this guitar today via UPS in excellent packaging and condition. I really didn't know what to expect in terms of craftsmanship but the guitar is extremely well built. It is definitely on par with the Cordoba C5 which I also have from the Iberia model line. The guitar is strung with French Savarez strings and comes with a really nice, heavy duty Cordoba gigbag.I originally purchased this guitar for my 7 yr old but this guitar is way too big for my child. Here are the approx. measurements: a) Upper bout - 9.5" wide; b) waist - 8.5"; c) lower bout - 13" wide; d) body length - 16.75"; e) body depth - 3 1/8" to 3 3/8"; f) overall length - 35.5"; g) nut width - 1 7/8"; h) string width (E to E) at the saddle - 2 1/8"; i) scale length - 580 mm (per website).Cosmetics: the guitar really has a very nice tight grain cedar top. The laminate African Mahogany back and sides are beautifully straight. The finish doesn't look at all thick but does look very durable. The inside looks very clean except for some minor conspicuous glue residue at the neck block and one of the back braces. The kerfing looks well constructed. You can see the Cordoba sticker through the soundhole with the word "Requinto" on it. There is no serial number. There is Rosewood binding around the soundboard and back edges. I believe the nut and saddle are made of synthetic material at least to my eyes. The rosette does not look like it is a sticker.Playability. The action feels low enough and the relatively short scale makes chording a breeze. It has been a while since I have played guitar music but playing Clapton's Tears in Heaven and Signe posed no challenges to hand fatigue. The string to string width at the saddle is a little to narrow for my tastes but it is workable. Really, I don't have any complaints.Sound: just having received this guitar, I am sure the sound/volume/tone will open up nicely. But just out of the box, it sounds like a smaller version of my C5, although with less sustain, volume, and resonance. I usually play on a steel string so I really don't have the "ear" for nylon guitars. Whatever the sound, the guitar does not sound like a toy or a cardboard box. The tone sounds very good in a non-steel-string kind of way. Harmonics and intonation are spot on at the 12th fret.Aside from the size of this guitar, which is again way to big for for my child to play, I am extremely happy with it and plan to keep it so my child can grow into it. There are some very minor imperfections but not enough to detract from the value of this guitar.

What a beautiful and playable guitar. I have tried for years to learn to play the guitar but have had issues with the full side fretboard (small hands) this guitar is perfect for me. Compact but with a big sound for it's size. My brother tried to play it and was able to but said that for his fingers it was a tight fit. The guitar was packed well and came on time with no damage. Really nice padded gig bag included. I will be investing in a hard case to keep the guitar in even though the gig bag is a good one. I live in a state with very changeable weather and want some additional protection for my guitar. I have had the guitar a week and a half and it seems to have adjusted well to my house and is holding it's tuning well with a more mellow sound then when first out of the box. I would recomend this guitar to anyone wanting a great travel guitar or someone with smaller hands. If I could give this more then 5 stars I would because I'm just that happy with it!

Nice small guitar, but not the same as the requintos used in Mexico

The fit and finish on this guitar is pretty nice. It's a smallerscale version of a classical guitar in most respects. That meansthe body is 3/4 depth or so, maybe 3 inches, max. The Mexicanmade requintos are substantially deeper, as deep or deeper thanmost full size classicals.Because this guitar has a smaller soundbox than the Mexican ones,the sound is smaller. It is not a very loud guitar, though it'spleasant to play and a good value if you want a small guitarthat isn't a cheesy toy. For performing however the volume ofthis guitar is not big. You'll get more volume and bark froma solid-top Mexican-made requinto.These guitars would be pretty good for a kid who is serious aboutwanting to learn. Easy to play, nice tuners, good fretwork, solidtop and a competent setup.One alternative if you're an adult interested in the requintosound used by Mariachi groups and Bachata players, is to geta Mexican-style requinto made in Paracho. I have one and thesound is a loud, penetrating high-pitched lead guitar sound -tuned the same as a guitar capo'ed at the 5th fret, so you fingerC songs as if they were in G and G tunes as if in D. Thefit and finish of my Paracho guitars is unpredictable though, soif you order one online at a low-ish price, be prepared to putwork into it to set it up as a playable instrument.I'll reiterate - the Cordoba guitar is a polished and playablesmall guitar that sounds good, but it's not the correct requintoused for lead guitar parts in Bachata and Mariachi styles.
