Beautiful Instrument!

I bought my Aria AD-80 on eBay 5 years ago and although I knew I was getting a "nice" guitar by the spec sheet I never imagined what a beautiful, collectable instrument I was actually getting. The guitar was alright out of the box but sounded a little commpressed and flat to me as well as needing the normal new guitar set up. The look was no disappointment at all though! What a beauty! The MOP inlays are sweet without being gaudy and the back and side woods are as nice as any Martin I've ever seen (speaking of Martin this is a D45 copy, I believe, and you would be hard pressed to tell the difference blindfolded). The solid spruce top may be a bit plain but, with the abalone inlay around the sound hole and the entire binding of the guitar, it just sparkles. The gold tuners not only look rich and fit the look of the guitar, but they work perfectly. After about six months of playing the guitar I noticed one day that it was just coming alive and the sound opened up adding bass, treble and a ton of dynamic range! It sounded so good that I have done some upgrades to it because I intend on keeping this one. I had a K & K pickup added (a three transducer system that sounds awesome) and I replaced the original string retainer pins with solid brass "Tone Pins" with abalone inlay that increase the amount of sound the string transfers to the bridge and then the sound board and just add to the good looks. You cannot find another guitar in this price range that can compare! BTW - I paid $550.00 for mine and am not surprised at the price they go for now.

I got mine about 4 years ago. It was talked about a lot on acoustic guitar forums as a "sound cannon"--a really full sounding acoustic instrument that projects very well. I listened to the Youtube video entitled words to the effect of "flat-picking a few tunes on my Aria AD-80" and I was sold. There are no electronics in the guitar so it's purely an acoustic instrument with no details going to the electronics. I took it to a Guitar Center and asked if I could bring it in and play it against other fine guitars from Taylor, Martin, Gibson, Larivee and they let me. A few customers took note and some said my guitar was as loud at any of the others I played (including a Taylor PS). It is strong in all fingerings and doesn't die halfway up the neck like some mass produced guitars do. It is actually a copy of a D-42 and not a D-45 as the other reviewer speculated. The D-45 has bigger block fret markers. This is a quality instrument in all respects. I find that real Martin's however--especially my personal favorite the HD-35--produce more harmonics and have that X-factor special magic that only the fairies and gnomes who work at Martin know how to get out of the same materials. But I don't feel cheated for the money I paid. (Actually, it was $899 when I bought which was before it got around how good these guitars really are and somewhat under-priced. This model is worth it's current price for sure and gets you a pretty authentic-looking and sounding D-42 look-alike. I used medium gauge coated phosphor bronze strings to wring all of the sound out of it I can. Love it. Awesome.
