Introduced in 2006, the Grand Symphony body is an original design from top to bottom--and the first new Taylor shape in over a decade. It was a hit right out of the gate. Expect acoustic power in every note, with deep piano-like bass, rich mids, clear and balanced highs, and plenty of volume. The soundboard for the GS5 is made from western red cedar, while traditional acoustic guitar styling makes for an elegant, understated look.

Taylor's Grand Symphony Shape The Grand Symphony (GS) is the first original shape from Bob Taylor since he unveiled the Grand Auditorium (GA) in 1995. Though you might see similarities to a GA, the GS is unique in both sound and design. Significant changes in its geometry yield a deeper, more piano-like bass. The waist is moved a bit higher, and is 3/8 of an inch wider. The result is a reduction in the "pinching" of the waist, which releases more tonal output from the guitar. Finally, the lower bout is expanded, making it feel slightly rounder. They're subtle changes that yield a far-from-subtle change in tone. Complementing the robust bass from the GS body, volume and low-end sustain are full, rich mids and clear, balanced highs. The GS is a unique sound and a new dimension in Taylor tone.

What a guitar!

I can not speak highly enough of this guitar. If you like abalone and decorations a gogo this is not your guitar. If you want something that looks simple but very nice and well made, with the most smooth neck I have ever had, this is the guitar for you. And I had at least 10 Taylors going through my hands, including 700 and 800 series.This guitar booms like crazy, the harder you strum, the louder it gets - obviously - but it is truly loud, not to compare to a dreadnought. Also, there is so much volume in the case that also reflects in the sound. Basses are true basses, not muffled at all, and the medium/highs are typical Taylor crisp. I was hesitating between this one and the GS8, but this one was on offer on Amazon so I took this one. I do not regret it at all, love this guitar. A keeper! It can only get better with time...
