Every step in the creation of this excellent musical instrument, from tonewood selection to hand-sanding the frets, is done in a small factory by master craftsmen.Body topMost manufacturers are using Sitka spruce tops for their high end models. In Yamaha's experience, Engelmann spruce from Canada naturally suits the role for top woods better than any other. The overriding quality for body top material is an allowance for resonance and Engelmann spruce has this attribute in abundance. It is a light wood that is easy to work and enables a good tone response with a wide harmonic range. Visually Engelmann spruce is comfortable on the eye and its opaque light yellow tint is reminiscent of a mature acoustic instrument. Back & sideYamaha uses rosewood for both the back and sides on all the L series models. The rosewood blends extremely well with the Engelmann spruce top. It disperses resonance evenly and effortlessly.Neck blockThe neck block reinforces the neck joint. Yamaha has improved the conventional C block design by enlarging the surface area that is in contact with the top of the guitar. The block securely meets the underside of the top adding a real depth to the tone of the instrument.BracingX-bracing maps out the vibration patterns of the guitar. Each of the eight braces has been carefully positioned in order to bring out the tone in a balanced fashion and find a natural harmony with the guitar's tone woods.Multilayered reinforced neckTraditionally, an acoustic guitar neck is carved from a single timber block. Diamond in the rough

I usually don't take the time to review products but, having this guitar for 8 years now, I can vouch that it really is a great guitar.I've played 2000 dollar guitars that don't sound nearly as good as this guitar. I think the reason is the quality. Maybe I just got lucky with mine, because having a guitar that sounds better than a hummingbird for 500 dollars makes me feel spoiled.This was my first guitar as well. not the easiest to start on but defiantly versatile and built to last. You can play anything from contemporary pop/rock/country to 1930s blues and jazz on this unit and it sounds great no matter what. Another plus is that once you get good (assuming your starting out buying this guitar) dreadnoughts are known for having a nice loud and robust tone, which will bring out the best (or worst! haha) of your playing and help distinguish your unique characteristics as a player.I hope this is helpful for perspective buyers :) Thanks Yamaha for a great guitar!-Tom

First off, my stable of acoustic guitars; Epiphone, Washburn, Taylor, Tres Penos (a little know Mexican brand), and now the LL-6 from Yamaha. Admittedly, not my first Yamaha, I've had two others. This LL-6 is AWESOME!!!. Construction is superb (things only a wood worker would see, you have to look internally). They use a dove tail joint at the neck joint. Martin used to use the same joint buy changed to a mortise and tenon (see Martin's youtube video) to save time. Yamaha still uses the dovetail, easily seen by looking inside the guitar. The choice of Engleman Spruce for the top as opposed to normal spruce (from more southern growths) I can only assume is because of it's northern origins the grain is tighter (it is). To make a long story short, I can't say enough good things about this guitar. It's east to play, sounds great with pick or finger style, and for what your getting VERY inexpensive (notice I did not say cheap). My Taylor has just been relegated to number two in my stable.If you decide to buy one you will not be disappointed.
